West Maui Hike: Kapalua Trails

In a past blog I have written about the beauty of the Mahana Ridge Trail; I now am going to write about another Maui hike on one of the many beautiful Kapalua trails. The “Duck Pond” trail is that of the former village golf course at Kapalua. This is a paved trail that will take you up some pretty steep slopes but the reward is amazing. Here you will see a pond filled with a few fish but many Muscovy ducks and many other species of birds.

Kapalua Maui Hiking Trails

This trail is not one that is entirely demanding like that of the Mahana Ridge trail, but one that the whole family can go. Many of us that live here on the islands take the dogs up to sit around the pond and look and take in the scenery. Do not let the start of the trail fool you, as it is steep; taking your time and packing many of the supplies (water, snacks, sports drink, towel) to name a few, will help you successfully accomplish this trail and the fun that hiking has.

As it’s a paved trail you will want to wear running or walking shoes or, as many of us do around the island, our slippahs (flip flops). The best advice that can be given is to take your time because you are still on the beautiful island of Maui.

There are a few other outcropping trails that are not paved and for those of you looking to get off the path (no pun intended, or did I create a punny?) you can hike your way through the lush pines and tall grasses that are beautiful to look at.

Go for a Hike on Maui!

If you want to take on this trail I would use the same advice by parking across the street from the wonderful Taverna Italian Restaurant and Bay Clubhouse. You can also get a few of the needed supplies from the Honolua Store in the same lot. Don’t forget your sunscreen, as that is a must as it is around the entire island. The best part is you can do this hike at any point in the day as it has plenty of shade and, as stated before, not overly demanding.

See you out on the trail!
