Pumpkin Patch in Paradise

I want to share more information on the wonderful Maui Pumpkin Patch hosted at Kula Country Farms!

Sometimes living on an island catches you feeling a constant state of never-ending summer. To those who are shoveling snow, this may sound like a dream come true. I also know that most of us definitely don’t miss the cold, but sometimes we miss the perfectly paired memories associated with cool weather; the beautiful fall-colored leaves, spooky Halloween movie snuggles, a cup of hot chocolate, cozy sweaters, warm campfires, fuzzy socks, and hot ooey gooey fresh-out-of-the-oven desserts, can be missed a time or two.

On the flip side, if you happen to be traveling here during the holidays, you may not wish to miss out on fall traditions. Fortunately, Maui does an impeccable job of keeping you feeling the Holiday Spirit in PARADISE.

Kula, Maui

Kula is a district located on the western-facing slopes of Haleakala; it stretches from the town of Makawao to Kanaio. On the way, transform your vision of Maui by driving “Up Country” along fields of limes, oranges, and cattle while checking out panoramic views of Maui.

Kula is Maui’s premier agricultural region that supplies high-quality products to some of Hawaii’s finest restaurants and stores. Kula is home to Maui’s freshest produce, such as tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, strawberries, herbs, sweet onions, and even PUMPKINS! You are in for a treat!

Kula Country Farms Pumpkin Patch

Kula Country Farms is known for providing the best locally grown strawberries that you can pick, fresh produce, and hosting farm events for our community! The fall Pumpkin Patch is a must-see event! From ages 2 weeks old to 92, it is genuinely a FALL FUN FOR ALL! My family and I went this week and had such a fabulous time; I can’t wait to share my insight!

When is it open?

The Pumpkin Patch is open the entire month of October! October 1st to October 31st.

The patch is open from 9:00 am-4:00 pm; the gates will close at 3:45 pm.

How much is it to attend?

It is $5 per person and free for ages three and under.

What is at the pumpkin patch?

Kula Country farms outdid themselves! Enjoy spooky and cute Halloween props and decorations, coffee, snacks, ice cream, food stands, farm animals, a children’s garden, and the chance to find the perfect pumpkin or pumpkins at the enormous pumpkin patch overlooking the beautiful valleys and ocean blues!

Kula Country Farm Store is also open; here, you can purchase local goodies and holiday gifts such as honey, art, jewelry, produce, Kula Strawberries, cooking pumpkins, squash, flowers, plants, and my favorite – the delicious homemade strawberry lemonade!

Once you take plenty of pictures, and check out the props, stands, and activities, you can make your way down to pick out the perfect pumpkin to paint, carve, or maybe even use to bake the most delicious Pumpkin Pie! The patch has rows and rows of all types of pumpkins and gourds, all shapes, textures, and sizes (some even look like starfish!) Wagons to carry your selected pumpkins are provided to make your life a little lighter.

After making your selection, you pay for the pumpkins based on which size category they fall into — small, medium, or large!

In case you need carving tools, Kula Country Farms has you covered with various tools and kits to purchase.

Things to Know

  • There are not any restrooms on the property, so make sure to stop somewhere on the way, or there are public restrooms at the park across the street.
  • Dogs and other animals are not allowed unless they are service animals.
  • You can pet the farm animals at your own risk, but they ask you to please be gentle and not feed them.
  • For more details, check out their official website.

Pumpkin Carving/Painting Suggestion

My family and I took both of our pumpkins to the beach to carve and paint! I highly suggest this idea; it was a blast.

We went to Maluaka Beach in Makena; it seems to be one of our favorites due to the large grassy area, tables, bathrooms, excellent stretch of white sand, great snorkeling, and stunning views of the Molokini Crater and Kaho’olawe. However, any beach with a picnic table and a good view will do!

We arrived at the beach around 7:00 am because it tends to be less windy in the morning, making it much easier to start an arts and crafts project outside.

Things to bring (we learned the hard way):

  • Painting paper, a throw-away table cloth, a tarp, or something to prevent a mess and make easy cleanup
  • Tape – if you are using a carving stencil, this secures it to the pumpkin
  • Marker or pen to draw a design
  • Paper towels
  • Knife and carving kit
  • Paint & paint brush
  • Trash bags
  • Food and drinks to get the party started!

Nothing is better than being able to conveniently rinse off pumpkin guts in Maui’s beautiful clear water! Check out our masterpieces below, and please share your Beach Pumpkin with me via email!

Mahalo and I hope you have FALL FILLED FUN!
