All three of my children have gone through Haiku School at one time or another. In my many years there as a parent and PTA member, I can honestly say that it just gets better and better. When I think about what makes Haiku School stand out, it is most certainly the community and parent involvement.
Most recently, Haiku School has received a $10,000 grant from the Bendon Family Foundation. The grant will fund a new science enrichment program that would not be possible without the generous donation from the Bendon’s. A big mahalo to Susan Bendon for making this happen! Every year, the bar is raised at our biggest fundraiser, The Haiku School Ho’olaule’a.
Simply put, the PTA of Haiku School funds the programs that the state has cut from their budget; programs that we had when we were growing up—such as: the arts and enrichment, drama, dance, creative movement, music, and art classes. The P.E. teachers/classes are also funded through the PTA, as well as bottled water in all of the classrooms.
This is just one of the many reasons living in Haiku has been a wonderful experience. If you’re thinking of a move yourself—call me, I will gladly fill you in on the many treasures of this community.
