Here are 5 criteria to consider if you should buy a unit located by the pool:

1. Development Size

2. Proximity to the Pool

Some developments have buildings that are less than 20 feet away from the pool. You may enjoy owning a ground floor unit and being able to quickly jump in the pool as if it were your own. Or you may decide that the laughter, the splashing, and the Marco Polo games are not for you. Other pools are strategically set to offer plenty of privacy, although allowing for easy access.

3. Other Amenities by the Pool

Many developments also offer barbecue and dining areas by the pool. Due to fire regulations, many developments restrict the use of barbecues on the lanais. Pools are not only a potential source of noise, but they may also be the source of food odors or smoke.

When a development does not offer an ocean, mountain, or garden view, looking at the blue pool may be a coveted feature. Napili Puamala does not offer an ocean view, but the combination of the blue pool and the lush Hawaiian landscape make for a very soothing experience.

5. Your Preference and Your Long Term Plans

You may think that I should have started with this criteria. But one has to consider their long term plans and how desirable the property is for other people. If you intend to enroll the unit in a vacation rental program, a unit close to the pool is a gamble. Some guests specifically want that, and some avoid it at all costs. The same applies when the time comes for you to sell the property. Your pool of buyers may increase or decrease due to the proximity to the pool.
