“Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind.” A quote from one of my favorite Disney movies, Lilo & Stitch.

What Does Ohana Mean?

More accurately and from the Hawaiian Dictionary, ʻohana means family, relative, kin group; related. ʻOhana holoʻokoʻa, ʻohana nui means extended family, clan.

‘Ohana or family means so much to me. I come from a rather large immediate family with 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and now 6 nieces and nephews. Those who know me best know that family is everything to me and I really would do anything for them.

But the word ‘ohana in the Hawaiian language and culture, does not just include your bloodline relatives. It includes all those you want to include; it’s the family you choose. ‘Ohana is all-inclusive. So although I have my immediate family members, I am also blessed to have friends (and clients) who have become part of my ‘ohana.

What Does Ohana Mean for Me and Real Estate?

Being a realtor is beyond selling or buying real estate. My clients become my ‘ohana. It is not just a job, and it’s never just a transaction — it’s a relationship. The constant interaction is one of my favorite parts of the job. Like my own family, when it comes to my clients — I fight for their rights and what is deserved. My ultimate fiduciary duty is to my client and my client alone.
