Weekend in Kekaha

We spent our family weekend out on the Westside of Kauai at one of our favorite beaches, Targets. I needed to check on our listing located at 4520 Alae Rd #B in Kekaha. It is a designer custom home that features an open concept floor plan with high vaulted ceilings, perfect for the modern day minimalist. I told my family that we should make a day out of it since we are driving 25 minutes out to the west side of the island. Without hesitation, we packed up the truck with beach gear and took off. As we passed thought Waimea, we entered Kekaha. Our listing is located right off the main highway which means ocean views from every room of the house. It is exceptional. See for yourself!

After making sure everything was a-okay with my listing, we headed back on the main road to our destination which took all of 1 minute, (one of the best features of this home if you ask me).

Kekaha Beach Park

Kekaha Beach Park is apart of a 15-mile-long coastline. The portion of the beach between the Pacific Missile Range Facility and the beach park includes several miles of sandy, leveled shoreline winding around Kokole Point, which we refer to as Targets. You can set up for your beach day at Kekaha Beach Park, which has a lifeguard on watch, showers, bathrooms and some picnic areas. To drive down the beach as we do, you need 4-wheel drive. We drive in about half a mile and then set up camp. Tents go up, fishing poles set and coolers come out. It is a beach for the entire family. The kids can roam free, swim, build sandcastles, fish, and go hunting for sand crabs while I enjoy a refreshing cocktail and some light reading in peace.

Where Should You Stop to Pick Up Lunch?

Usually before a big beach day, I’d make a quick Costco run to buy lunch and snacks for the kids but that is not necessary when passing through Waimea town, thanks to Ishihara Market.

It is a mandatory stop if we are on the west side. Best poke on the Island. For instance, I get the spicy ahi with 1 scoop of rice and my fiancé likes to get the Inamona Poke, which is fresh ahi chunks mixed with sesame oil, limu, and Hawaiian salt. They also serve the best plate lunches and always have fresh cut up fruit for sale which my daughter loves! It is a one stop shop for us.

I think the house is wonderful. I bought a time share in Princeville and drove to the west side. Lovely, laid back, I went to that beach too.

Is the house for sale or rent?

Very fond memories of the west side.

Nani. Are you from Kauai? Apart from being environmentally irresponsible – Its against the law to park vehicles on the beach. Shame on you.

““Kauai is unique as the only county to allow vehicle access,” said Francis Mission, Kauai supervisor for the state DLNR, Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement. “But, the rules do say they must drive back off of the beach.””
