Waimea Parkside: A Charming Community of New, Quality Homes in Waimea on Hawai’i Island

Hawaii Life recently partnered with Tinguely Development to represent a community of newly built homes at Waimea Parkside in one of the most charming towns on the Big Island. It has been a pleasure to show these gems at Waimea Parkside since they are built with quality craftsmanship in a timeless style that borrows from the plantation-style architecture seen around Hawai‘i. They fit seamlessly into the existing style and architecture of Waimea, and they offer an appealing option for buyers.

There isn’t a great deal of new construction in Waimea, so for buyers looking for classic features, but with all the conveniences that new construction offers, Waimea Parkside, built by Tinguely Development, is a must-see. In addition, the neighborhood itself is warm and welcoming, with an eclectic mix of existing homeowners (the development is now 60% sold) that wave and say aloha as you pass by.

Waimea Parkside offers 3- to 4-bedroom homes with 1,750 to 2,900 square feet of living area. The neighborhood is made up of active professionals, doctors, attorneys, retirees, young families, and returning Hawai’i residents. Located across the street from the Anuenue Playground, an elaborate play structure for children within the county’s public Waimea Park, Waimea Parkside is convenient to many amenities including popular Farmers’ Markets.

Developer Phil Tinguely spoke to us about the community’s appeal, “Waimea Parkside offers an urban lifestyle where there’s virtually no need for a car. Our residents walk or ride their bikes to run their errands. They’re within walking distance of Waimea’s goods, services, fine schools, farmers’ markets, the park and playground, and more.” Phil tells us that current residents will attest to the warm friendliness and neighborly feel of the community. As the community manager, he holds regular events in the community to show his appreciation for residents, and to get feedback on the homes once they’ve been lived in a little.

The architecture of the homes honors the plantation style, with classic board-and-batten exteriors and standing-seam roofs that feature a 40-year warranty. The home interiors feature classically-styled hardwood flooring, crown moldings, wainscoting, beadboard and coved ceilings, depending on the floor plans and finishings buyers choose.

They are also packed with modern touches like radiant heat in the bathroom floors, heated towel bars, and gas fireplaces to warm the homes on cooler Waimea nights. “We’ve prided ourselves on ensuring that Waimea Parkside homes stand out, but also that the neighborhood’s style will stand the test of time and still look classic 40 years from now,” said Tinguely.

Fully insulated throughout, the homes are protected against the cooler temperatures and winds prevalent at Waimea’s altitude. They feature continuous concrete stem wall foundations, raised to protect from ground moisture. They feature vinyl, double-hung windows with insulated glass to naturally ventilate the homes on hot days, and keep them warm when the temperatures drop. The 10,000 square-foot lots are fully fenced, landscaped and equipped with irrigation systems for convenience.

As a little girl growing up in Kalihi and then Wahiawa, and a short time on Maui, my dream was to own a plantation house like my grandma had in Puunene. We are nearing retirement and our dream is to come back home to the Big Island. Waimea would be my dream. Looking and trying to work our way home.
