Waimea Paniolo Parade and Ho’olaulea is September 16

One of Waimea’s most popular annual events is taking place this Saturday. I’m talking about the 42nd Paniolo Parade and Ho’olaulea. Celebrating our island’s rich paniolo (cowboy) heritage, this is a fun family event enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

It all starts with the Paniolo Parade, which kicks off at 10 a.m. at historic Church Row on Mamalahoa Highway and makes its way through the heart of downtown Waimea to Waimea Park.

The parade includes crowd favorites such as the Royal Court and pa’u riders. Unique to Hawaii, each pa’u rider princess is adorned in flowers and lei representing a different Hawaiian island.  You can learn more about pa’u riders here: Wahine Holo Lio- Ke Ola Magazine.

Waimea Park is also where the Ho’olaulea will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You’ll want to stick around after the parade to enjoy all the great live music, ono food, and of course lots and lots of vendors featuring locally made Hawaiian items. There are games for the kids, and so much more! This is truly a wonderful community event that really draws the Waimea community together year after year. Best of all, it’s free!

Plus, on any given Saturday there are three different farmers markets taking place in Waimea, so there will really be a lot to do this weekend!

The Paniolo Parade and Ho’olaulea is a wonderful opportunity to experience Hawaiian culture and get to know Waimea in general. See you there!

And as always, if you are looking to live in Waimea or surrounding communities, feel free to contact me.
