The Upcountry Bakery & Cafe makes fresh bagels and breads along with sandwiches, fresh Kona Coffee, fruit drinks, and more! Located across the street from the fire and police stations in Captain Cook, it’s just off the Mamalahoa Hwy. on your way to Honaunau.
Here’s a map to the place, just in case you want a healthy dose of Hawaii living!
Owners Antoinette and Jon Sharfin, and their awesome partners, Jeff and Jess Yeoman, are having fun making all kinds of yummy things to eat…from organic fresh fruit drinks to gluten-free products, they are very conscious about what they are serving, and are very much into sustainable living and supporting locally grown products as much as possible. You can grab a quick bite, or take some banana bread for the relatives and friends you are visiting (local style of aloha—never come empty handed, always bring something to eat or share when visiting someone).
I ordered the fully loaded bagel and it was yummy! They add a special cream cheese spread that makes the whole bagel-eating experience something you want to have over and over again…it was that good! And the store itself is so inviting, it makes you feel like you’re visiting friends—you’ll want to hang out for a while! Antoinette also offers a chance to paint your own coffee mug or ceramic Hawaii piece—fun unique gifts from Hawaii with your aloha painted on it!
On some weeknights they have live music and are offering other activities for those who love hanging out! Below is a video of Stuheart and Jasmine playing music at the Upcountry Bakery…what a fun place to relax and enjoy Hawaii living and special friendships!
The Cafe is very interested in promoting local talent, locally grown food, and happy-healthy living—so if you love those things too, come hang out with us! Who says businesses aren’t thriving in Hawaii? It’s your attitude that makes the business prosper…in any market!
We hope to see you soon at the Upcountry Bakery & Cafe! Blessings Always~

We recently vacationed on the Big Island and found the Upcountry Bakery and Cafe and absolutely loved it! The bagel sandwiches were awesome, the Lava Flow Banana bread was incredible and the mixed berry turnovers were the best I have ever eaten. Wish we could order them to be shipped to California!! Thanks so much for a great food experience!
