Unique Oceanfront Luxury Homes in Poipu Offer Seaside Living at its Finest

Autumn is in the air. It surprises many to learn that even here, on the Island of Perpetual Blossoming, we experience a bit of crisp air of the newly arriving fall. That was yesterday.

Today, the dawn arrived on a soft Kona wind, bringing the sound of the sea into my ocean-facing windows. It was a soft alarm clock, bidding me to arise and begin another glorious day in paradise.

After a cup of fragrant jasmine green tea, and a gentle yoga warm-up, I head out the door on my bicycle to enjoy a leisurely surf check. Peddling along the coastal roads of Kauai’s fabled south shore, I notice the air is cooler today, the sky is clear and the rain doves are flirting with one another, but not cooing, indicating that we may expect no rain this morning.

I pass by two popular surf breaks: PKs and Acid Drop. The ‘morning crew’ is already shredding the 3-4 foot glassy waves. With little-to-no wind, waves are shaped primarily by the swell that generated them. This swell is coming from Tahiti. The cresting waves turn into clear aquamarine wedges when backlit by the sun. The waves are long and slow enough to permit some fancy footwork by the long-boarders.

Further on, at ‘Itty Bitty Baby Beach,’ the rising tide dominates the beach and is playfully painting itself up the seawall. The just-past-full-moon hangs high in the clear blue southwestern sky. It is a beautiful morning. Joggers and runners and other cyclists are out to enjoy it too. And there is a private yoga class slowly unfolding on the Kukui’ula Harbor lawn.

Noteworthy Homes For Sale in this Area

I pass the Kukui’ula Harbor Cottage (MLS# 279061), a rare jewel of a property on the market for a song considering its location. In the bay, the outrigger canoe team is practicing. This is the home of the Kukui`ula Outrigger Canoe Club and one of the fastest outrigger canoes on Kauai can be seen from the lanai of this property. There is also a lot for sale (MLS# 289017) nearby for those who wish to command a view of Kukui’ula Harbor activities in a home of their own design.

Another radiant Kauai sunrise is illuminating my rear-view mirror. Cycling along further, across from the National Tropical Botanical Gardens is another awesome property for your consideration: The Harbor House (MLS# 280027). It is an elegant two-story, designed for entertaining right on the bay, and has been renovated from top to tide pools. I saw one of the first whales of the season from the lanai featured in this blog post!

Looping back, I enjoy basking in the rays of the rising sun, my mind filled with beauty. After taking in the sights, sounds, scents, and surf for an exhilarating hour of bicycling while imagining living wonderfully and well in any of these fine coastal luxury properties, is there anything more refreshing than plunging into the cool, clear waters of the sea after a brisk workout? If there is, you let me know.
