Talk Story #20 – Historic Cottage Another Example of Hawaii's Diversity

Historic cottage (MLS# 1103988) in a perfect location near Kapiolani Park and Waikiki

Recently, my Talk Story #19 showed a sampling of the mixed historic architectural designs in the Manoa Valley. As residential areas spread in the early 20th century from agricultural to urban, a distinct variety is noticed as peoples from around the world were drawn to Hawaii.

Often, it seems they desired to bring something of their past with them in designing a home. From the quaint rounded roof storybook cottages of perhaps Europe, to the ultra modern design of that particular decade, or to a new graciousness of open lanais, sweeping roof lines, and a tropical feeling.

Kapiolani Park with Waikiki, Honolulu to Ewa in far distance, view from Diamond Head summit

At the base of Diamond Head are residences near to the spacious Kapiolani Park and where the Gold Coast ocean fronted condominiums start looming upward. Tucked neatly on a side street, there is a prime example of a classic vintage property. Surrounded by varied homes of all styles, this established region is all about that real estate saying of “location, location, location!”

If you love the character and cultural heritage of an older home, want it to be rather small and tidy, and also be able to walk to Waikiki and all that it offers, then a fine example is this 2 bed/2 bath cottage (MLS# 1103988) on Coconut Ave. Built in 1920 and remodeled in 1990, it qualified to be in the Hawaii Historic Registry.

Contact me and I will set an appointment to view this home with you. I look forward to our “talk story” about your desires and needs. Aloha, Jeanne.
