Street or Covered Parking, That is the Question

Ever wonder why when you drive down a local Hawaiian street you see more cars than homes?

In Hawaii, we have an epidemic of street parking and residents not using their garages, carports, or designated parking areas. Granted not every property has covered parking, but those that do are usually filled with storage items, gym equipment, or laundry. This is also coupled with the fact that many have more cars than people in their houses.

I know that in Ewa Beach, around our office, many of the properties do in fact have covered garages. When you drive past these homes, you rarely see cars in the garages. These areas have been turned into full gyms, an abundance of unneeded storage items, or more likely than not, they have become tool shops. It is a problem since most of the homes are on the smaller side with limited storage.

Do We Really Need That Much Stuff?

Maybe it’s time to get rid of the winter clothes, the weights not being used, and make room for our cars again. In my opinion, it looks much nicer to have clean streets so we can see more of the beauty of our land than looking at rows of parked cars.

What do you think?
