One of my favorite communities on the Big Island of Hawaii is Puako. One of the last beach communities without a gate, Puako is a quaint ocean side village with a single road that runs along the coastline that is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. A bike ride away from the Mauna Lani Resort and world-renowned white sand beaches, there are several beach accesses that open to world-class snorkeling, diving, surfing, and fishing. Puako is the ultimate ocean playground for people of all ages and skill levels.

If you are looking for a home within a true beach community that can accommodate a multi-generation family or corporate retreat, this home will exceed your expectations. Named Pakalana, after the fragrant lei flowers that the owner’s mother loved, no expense was spared in the construction of this beautiful Eco-Wise Retreat. Constructed of bamboo and eco-friendly materials, Architect David Sands of Bamboo Living Homes designed the home to include four magnificent structures that can accommodate multiple guests.

Great house Jan! The lifestyle and pace of Puako still has the charm of “Old Hawaii” not to mention the fact that there are no HOA fees and County Water is available!! A real savings when you consider the savings in monthly maintenance costs for a piece of paradise.
See you at the beach:)

You are right, there is no place like Puako, it is a neighborhood full of old Hawaii Aloha!
That is a good point about the water, Pam, County water is less than Kohala Ranch and Waikoloa Private Water Companies!
Just went for a snorkel yesterday at Paniau, it was simply gorgeous! That is another one of my favorite things about living in Puako…jump on my bike and jump in the ocean in 5 minutes, aaah!
