Save Millions on a Puako Beach Home in Exchange for a Short Walk to the Beach

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets along the entire Kohala Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island is the mauka side of Puako Beach real estate.

It’s a common phenomenon for visitors—some who have been coming to the island for years, staying at the Mauna Lani Resort or Mauna Kea Resort—to “discover” Puako, fall in love with this charming community and only have eyes for property on the makai (oceanfront) side of the street. Who can blame them? It’s gorgeous and special, without a doubt!

Quite often people wander into our office next to the General Store at 7 Puako Beach Drive, nearly breathless in their quest for an answer to the age old question, “What is that house down the road selling for?” We watch closely for the “jaw-drop” when replying, “$500k-$2.25M mauka (mountain) side, or $1.8M-7M+ on the makai side of the street.” What a difference 100 feet make.

Originally asking over $1M, today selling for $699,000 (MLS# 218691)

So, for all of you Puako fans with champagne taste on a beer budget, I offer the following solution: think mauka, not makai.

One of the very best buys in all of Puako Beach real estate right now is on the mauka side of the street. This home (MLS# 218691) was originally priced over $1M and with a recent price drop, is now asking $699,000. A successful vacation rental, this charming beach cottage is located directly across the street from a public beach access granting fabulous—and way easy – ocean entry. Compare it to the neighboring makai side property which just sold for $1.8M.

How do you feel about saving over a million dollars in exchange for a 100-foot walk to the ocean?

You’re basically saving $10,000 a foot. I’d say that’s pretty tempting.

If one of your agents would close the sale of our Kohala Ranch house, we would put an offer on that! There’s an incentive! xoxo
