New Listing – Puako Beach Home for Sale (Aka, I’m Selling My Property!)

New Listing Alert!

Imagine living a few hundred feet from the ocean in Puako, a short walk down a narrow beach access…

We did — and when my husband, Dave Minkus (Director of Information Systems at the North Hawaii Community Hospital) and I were farsighted enough to buy this full-sized mauka lot in 2003, we envisioned building our “dream home” and living here. Forever. Of course, that was long before I learned that as a real estate professional, statistics show we move around. A lot.

So after building a sweet 500 sq ft, fully-permitted “guest cottage” with a huge wrap-around lanai, and enjoying it for two years… we are selling our Puako property and moving. In less than a week, I voluntarily placed myself in the same position as the Sellers who decide to hire us every day — right into the “inside experience” of what it’s like to sell property in Hawaii. In this market.

The first thing I did was hire the “best of the best” who list and sell property in Puako Beach, Jan Nores, R(S). Did I think long and hard about the fact that I could sell my own house and not pay a sell-side commission? Of course. But I know that I am way too attached emotionally to this property to make logical decisions regarding it’s sale. In hiring Jan, I can let go and trust that if I “do everything that Jan says” in the end, it will net me the most amount of money, in the least amount of time.

Why on earth would a Broker sell their house in a market such as this one? Life’s lessons have taught me that in order to continue pursuing my dreams, it’s necessary to let go of past accomplishments and move forward. And I mean literally forward, as in, Puako oceanfront. Selling the mauka Puako property is my first step forward. So I have a new dream, and am in pursuit.

Where will we wind up living next? I’m not sure yet. If I could move literally across the street into my neighbor’s house, I would, but he runs a very successful vacation rental…. We have lots of choices, and there are many wonderful spots on this big island. Where do you think we’ll land??

Im thinking you might end up in Kailua Kona for your transition. The deals now in Kona are incredible, your duties as President of the Kona Board of Realtors will require you spend more time in Kona and its nice to be near the movie theaters and night life for a change. Spice it up. If Im right, and I know I am, give me a call and I’d be happy to help you find the right place. 😉

I’m excitedly shopping for the completely upgraded Matt Beall Suite! I like modern design (in case you didn’t know). Can I just go door-knocking in Puako?

New Puako Beach Mauka Listing at a Great Price! « Hawaii Real Estate Market

October 17, 2010

[…] It can be a painful process — and I’m reminded of the most wonderful sellers we represented in Kohala Ranch this past year, and how long and hard they worked, literally for months, to depersonalize their space. They did it because we, as the experts, told them it would be one of the best ways to sell their house for more money, in the least amount of time, and you know what? It worked, they sold and happily moved on to the next phase of their lives. So Dave and I continue to surrender to the process and accept that we’re simply going to follow the advice of our real estate professional. […]
