Outdoor Activities on Oahu’s East Side

Oahu’s East Side, or Windward Side, is a playground for activity or for relaxation. From beautiful reefs and lush coastline to the rugged Ko’olau mountains that border it, the East Side is a marvelous place to visit or call home. Here are some of my favorite activities on the East Side.

Hiking

The Windward side of the island is the side where the weather arrives first, brought in by the north east trade winds. On Oahu, the landscape on the East Side is rugged, as the Ko’olau Mountains run along its coast. The rain, mixed with these mountains, make for some of the most beautiful hikes with waterfalls and dramatic views. Maunawili Falls is one of my favorite places to swim and jump off waterfalls. Crouching Lion is another great hike that offers breathtaking views of the east side. In fact, this hike is where my husband and I shot some of our wedding photos. Many locals and visitors frequent the lookout of Crouching Lion to capture beautiful images of the island coastline.

Foiling

Foil surfing has become an increasingly popular sport amongst water enthusiasts. Kahana Bay, just below the Crouching Lion hike, is a haven for water adventure. When the northeast trade winds blow into the bay, it creates a wonderland of water adventure. Watch and join in with families and individuals wind-wing foiling, surf foiling, longboarding, boogie boarding, and walking the beautiful beach filled with coco palms.

Just a quarter mile north of beautiful Kahana Bay is one of Hawaii’s most affordable Oceanfront properties. In a truly exquisite location, enjoy your oceanfront dreams here. The home is in need of major repair, so bring your dream ideas and a contractor.

Body Surfing/Boarding

Finally, if you just like to swim in the shoreline and play in the waves, check out Pounders Beach in Laie Bay. Pounders is a popular spot with the locals and is in a shaded beach park with lots of picnic tables. The beauty of the east side is its peace and quiet. You can drive to Honolulu in 30-45 minutes depending on where you leave from. Once back on the east side, however, the tranquility will force you to unwind and slow down. In fact, if you’re into peace and quiet, check out Zen with a View. This listing is just north of Pounders beach and is a tastefully built luxury home whose design reminds you of the beauty surrounding you and the peace and quiet it provides. Also great for entertaining, this listing will sweep you off your feet.

Whether you want to relax or get active, Oahu’s Windward Coast has it all. If you’d like to know more about the East Side, please contact me today. I look forward to chatting.
