Oahu Farmers’ Markets and Farm Fair

Some of the best places to try ono (delicious) local produce and other foods is at one of the farmer’s markets on Oahu.  There are more than 20 on the island each week. The biggest and our favorite is fortunately near our home, at Kapiolani Community College, on Saturday mornings.

What Can You Buy and Try at the KCC Farmers’ Market?

There are more than 70 stalls offering everything from ahi to zucchini, from spicy ghost pepper salsa by Bueno Salsa to lychee popsicles by Ono Pops. There are stalls offering a wide array of fruits and vegetables, and others that specialize in prepared dishes such as crepes, kalua pork or pizzas. And the food offered is grown (or raised) on islands across the state.

Unique Offerings

A few of the most unique offerings that I highly recommend include sugar cane juice from Lei’s Produce, grilled abalone from Big Island Abalone, lilikoi jalapeno jam from Akaka Falls Farm and pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) from Nosh LLC. I also recommend the pineapple cake from Happy Cakes, grilled Kauai ama ebi shrimp from Hawaiian Deep Sea Shrimp, Maui onion rings from Two Hot Tomatoes, and amazing tomatoes from Kamuela Tomatoes. If you haven’t tried them yet, do yourself a favor and buy a couple of dragon fruit, apple bananas, calamansi limes, rambutan, and longans.

While all the food is incredible, we frequently end up eating at The Pig & the Lady stall, one of the best restaurants in Honolulu. And our dessert is the Okinawan sweet potato tart by IMO. Just a word of advice, the KCC Saturday market gets very crowded. So get there early (opens 7:30am) and bring bags for all your purchases!

Hawaii State Farm Fair

This past weekend was also the 57th Annual Hawaii State Farm Fair at Kualoa Ranch on Oahu’s North Shore. The two-day event has lots of plant and food stalls, live entertainment, the 4-H livestock displays, a petting zoo, family fun contests, and even a dinosaur exhibit!

Taste What Hawaii Has to Offer!

So whether you are a kamaaina, a malahini (new arrival), or a tourist considering a vacation home on Oahu, make time to visit a farmers’ market to try some of the incredible produce and foods of Hawaii. If the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach…then these foods remind me of why I love my Hawaii life!
