What’s So Great About the North Shore?

Living on Maui’s north shore means you probably prefer a more relaxed lifestyle, combining beach activities with country living. Maybe you need space for all your beach toys and watercraft, so a couple of acres will allow for that. The fresh trade winds make it cool and enjoyable to be outdoors, especially if you want to harness that wind for powering up your kite or sail. Waves can be gentle or brutal, depending on the season and location, so you can usually have a choice of where to go for the best surfing.

North shore residents are an active and healthy group, living life to the fullest. People here tend to be organic farmers and gardeners just because they appreciate what good food tastes like and want to have access to wholesome fruit and veggies. A healthy environment means healthy people. The air is clean with no pollution from any upwind industries. Monsanto test farms are far away on the south shore. You can have room to build and grow, and create your own paradise.

Sustainability is a big factor on the north shore of Maui and some of these new listings are a perfect example of how you can provide for yourself. The Huelo estate pictured above has a water well and enough PV panels to unplug and keep on trucking. Burns Road in Haiku is a new off-grid neighborhood where people are embracing alternate energy technology and building new luxury homes.
