New Saddle Road Gives Waiki’i Ranch the Best Location on the Big Island

Striper Warning… Got People on the Lookout For Naked Men and Women Ahead!

Wowsa !!! The County of Hawaii has really outdone itself with the repaving of Saddle Road, making access to Waiki’i Ranch easier than ever. Repaving the road from just below the lower gate of Waiki’i Ranch to a couple miles above the upper gatehouse, this time the County did things RIGHT; the new Saddle Road is first class transportation.

For those of you that have traveled the old Saddle Road you may recall past repaving projects—one funky strip down the center of the road lined with pot holes on both sides. This did lead to a rather universally accepted standard of driving for all Saddle Road drivers, even the police, which involved simply driving down the center of the road…until, of course, you came across someone else driving down the center of the road.  It was a special thrill to get to play chicken with a mega-ton water truck!

Goodbye Military Jeep Road Of The 1940’s and…welcome 21st Century Saddle Road with smmmoooothh pavement and actual shoulders of gravel. I mean, it is truly a road of great beauty now!

And the best part of all? Waiki’i Ranch now has the very best location on the entire island. Check out these drive times to Waiki’i Ranch. (My drive times, that is.)

The only trick to all of these drive times is…once home in Waiki’i, who wants to leave?

So, if you have  a little time and want to see some of the upcountry sights Waiki’i has to offer, take the new Saddle Road… and you’ll be there in no time at all!

Pat – do you think we’ll ever stop calling it “Straddle Road???”
