New Big Island Equestrian Property Listings

There is no easy way to search for horse-friendly properties or those with equestrian facilities. Thatʻs why I try to blog horse properties as I see them come on the market. Last weekʻs Kona broker caravan included three new listings that a horse-owner might consider.

Equestrian Estate in Holualoa for sale

This ocean view horse property in Holualoa above Kailua Kuna has a barn and arena for your horses (and plenty of space for humans as well).

Two Listing at Puu Lani Ranch – A Community with Shared Equestrian Facilities

The curious thing about the Puu Lani Ranch community, located on the “upper road” between Kailua Kona and Waimea (Kamuela), is that it has central shared equestrian facilities, but almost no horse owners. And you cannot keep your horses on your own one-acre lot. However, one of the two new listings might offer the next best thing, as it is located adjacent to the paddocks, so you could walk out your door to tend to your horses or ride them in the arena or round pen.

One of the two new Puu Lani Ranch homes for sale is located immediately adjacent to the community equestrian facilities shown here

The two active listings are both asking $1,595,000 for homes on a little over one acre.

One is a 3 bed/3.5 bath home with 2,584 sqft of living area located immediately adjacent to the community equestrian facilities. For a serious horse owner who is used to (or dreams of) having their horse(s) in their backyard, this might be the best property in Puu Lani Ranch. The very livable floor plan includes three bedrooms with en suite baths and a separate office; photovoltaic panels and net metering mean low electric bills.

Horse owners at Puu Lani Ranch have the facilities pretty much to themselves, no congestion for use of the paddocks or arena

The other home is on the north rim of Puu Lani Ranch, and this is the choice location if what you want is a bit of ocean view — along with the Mauna Kea views both homes share.

A slightly larger home of 2,970 sq ft with 4 bed/3 bath, the floorplan situates the bedrooms along the view side of the home and a large enclosed lanai.

Equestrian Estate for Sale in Hualalai Farms (Holualoa)

If you are a serious “horse person” looking for a Big Island property, the new listing in the gated community of Hualalai Farms, in Holualoa mauka of Kailua Kona, is a truly rare opportunity in that it is already set up for horses, and you can trail ride around the community. Plus, like many of the homes on acreage in the area, it also is a producing coffee farm. And yes, it has ocean views.

Check out the listing on this 5.5-acre equestrian estate/coffee farm for a full list of whatʻs included, but here are some highlights:

  • Four separate living quarters (Main House and cottages), all permitted
  • Equestrian set up includes three stalls, tack room, wash rack and fenced arena
  • 3 acres of coffee plus equipment including pulpers and roasters to process it
  • Sustainable features: photovoltaic panels and on demand water heaters; reverse osmosis water system
  • Ocean Views
Main House at Horse Property for sale

Farm-styled main house — the property comes fully furnished and with farm equipment. Mainly personal items, artwork and horse tack excluded.

I love that you have a separate cottage for guests or extended family — plus two other living spaces for caretakers.

If none of these horse properties meets your needs, feel free to send me your criteria and Iʻll keep you in mind for the other opportunities. The Puakea Bay Ranch equestrian estate I recently blogged about is in escrow, but there are still vacant lots available there if youʻd like to create your own.
