Mauna Kea Resort 2019 Amenity Program

Since 2009 when the hotel reopened after renovations, homeowners at the Mauna Kea Resort have had a choice of three levels of membership in the amenity program known as the Club at Mauna Kea Resort. The program provides preferred access for owners to the facilities at both the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Beach Hotel. Residents of neighboring Kohala Coast communities also can purchase a membership at somewhat higher “kamaʻaina” rates.

Refurbished Mauna Kea Resort Hotels Taking it to the Next Level

There are two “sides” to the Mauna Kea Resort, with the entrance to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the ocean side of Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 19), and the entrance to the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort on the mountain side of the road, winding down under the highway to the hotel, with residential areas both above and below the highway.

Both hotels have seen significant investment in recent years, with the Hapuna hotel recently reopened as a Westin after a $46 million renovation. Still to come is the completion of the construction transforming what were the hotelʻs oceanfront suites into privately owned condos called the Hapuna Residences. With 17 reservations in place on the first release, Phase II of the Hapuna Beach Residences has just been offered, priced from a studio at $1,550,000 to a 4 bedroom home with its own plunge pool for $7,995,000

Changes to the Club at Mauna Kea Resort Options

For the coming year, the resort management surveyed their members to see if the Club program was continuing to meet their needs. The survey confirmed that the current structure still accommodates different lifestyles well.

All three current options include privileges at both hotel beaches, pools, tennis club and fitness centers, discounts on golf, preferred parking, discounts for dining, retail and activities within the resort.

The quick summary of differences between the three current options would be:

  • Silver level is perfect if your family and their occasional accompanied guests want to participate.
  • Gold level extends the benefits to unaccompanied guests – useful if you use your Mauna Kea condo or home as a short term vacation rental.
  • Platinum level includes unlimited golf for family members and the deepest discounts for guests.

In 2019, the first significant change to the amenity program in 10 years will be to offer a fourth option, The Hapuna Club. While still providing discounts on dining, retail purchases and rooms at both properties, the Hapuna Club option only gives beach and pool access at the Westin Hapuna Beach Hotel and does not include discounts on tennis or golf.

Summary – 2019 Changes to the Club at Mauna Kea Amenity Program

In summary, pricing to participate in one of the three levels of the Club at Mauna does not increase significantly from 2018, and a few new benefits have been added like waived corkage fees and a monthly managers reception. In addition, a new Hapuna Club program offers a lower level of membership fees for members who are happy to stay on the Hapuna Beach Hotel side of the Mauna Kea Resort.
