Maui Adventures in September – Part II

Adventures on Maui: Enjoy the road to Hana.

September adventures on Maui also include (for the non-ocean lovers and ocean lovers alike) the world famous Hana Relay Running Race from Kahului Airport to the Hana Ball Park, some 54 miles later. Teams are typically made up of 6 persons running three 3 mile legs (approximately). These teams are not only running for time, but competing on costumes, attitude, and spirit.

Wigs barely make costumes for the race

What better way to enjoy the valleys, mountains, and views that Hana Highway has to offer?? It is phenomenal. This race initially runs along Hana Highway through Spreckelsville, Paia town, and Kuau.

These areas are home to a few of my current favorite available properties (MLS# 326615) in one of the last oceanfront build-able lots in Kuau. Here is a home (MLS# 347283) with potential for multiple dwellings in desirable Kuau, and this high-end custom new construction home (MLS# 347163) on the ocean is within walking distance to Paia town.

After Kuau, the race runs past Hookipa Beach Park and through Haiku, Huelo, Kailua, Wailua, Keanae, Nahiku, and in to Hana town.

The fun really begins when the race is over. Teams get to celebrate in the Hana Ball Park and then go for swims in Hana Bay, Hamoa, and Koki, etc. With most teams over-nighting it in vacation rentals in Hana, or camping, people enjoy the crisp freshwater pools that are abundant in Hana and then meet for more celebrations throughout the night.

The team mascot, Aito, celebrates after a long drive
