Buying Advice

Join Our Next HomeSmart Seminar for First-Time Homebuyers on July 31st at Our Kaimuki Office

The process of purchasing a home is slightly unique from place to place. No matter where you’re from or which island you live on, Hawaii residents looking to purchase a home face a complex set of rules, laws, regulations and processes that can be challenging to navigate.

While we wrote about the lending process in a recent post entitled Everything You Need To Know About Securing A Hawaii Mortgage, there’s always more to learn, especially in the shifting landscape of Hawaii’s real estate market.

Brought to you by Hawai‘i Life and Mortgage Consultants, Meena Na and Joel Kurata, HomeSmart seminars are taught by professional, licensed mortgage consultants and real estate pros who share their combined expertise and passion to help you make smart decisions about one of life’s biggest investments.

We’ll help you navigate the many complexities of buying your first home, all in a casual, low-pressure setting where light pupus and solid intel are the order of the day. Attendees can mix and mingle and ask plenty of questions.  Sign up on Facebook to reserve your spot!

Hawaii Life Partners with Local Lenders

“In partnership with the team at our preferred lending partners, we set out to make the whole process as clear and transparent as possible with our new HomeSmart seminars, in a friendly, informal setting,” said Jeanie Schmaltz, broker-in-charge at Hawaii Life’s Waialae Avenue office in Honolulu, where the program will debut. “Our goal is to help consumers make informed decisions and feel confident about jumping into the Hawaii real estate market.”

Have you ever wondered about the difference between leasehold and fee simple listings that you see on the internet? Our friends and trusted colleagues will help you get a clearer picture of both types of properties. You’ll leave knowing more about an array of lending options, including fixed-rate mortgages, jumbo loans, FHA, VA and USDA loans, and so much more!

HomeSmart seminars will also cover affordable, first-time homebuyer lending options, steps needed to secure financing, and how lenders use and interpret credit score information. Attendees will learn the difference between pre-qualification and pre-approval for home loans.

“The home buying process can be complicated and at times, quite stressful. Our clients really need professional guidance to maneuver through the labyrinth of what may seem like endless documentation, underwriting conditions and closing expectations, both in costs and timelines,” says Meena Na. “We’re here to educate homeowners and for those who are not quite ready, we put them on a short- or long-term path to homeownership.”

“We know working with the right real estate agent and loan officer can really be the difference between having the worst experience of your life or enjoying one of the most exciting moments you’ll remember forever,” says Na.

Mortgage consultant Joel Kurata added, “Through these classes, we hope to provide a place where local first time home buyers can gather and ask questions about what they are reading online or hearing through the coconut wireless. Mortgage lending can differ from person to person and we hope to bring clarity and education to a sometimes intimidating part of the home buying process.”

At the end of the session, if you still have questions, the Meena and Joel will hold a helpful Q&A session where everyone can share in the expertise of their Oahu mortgage professionals. We want to invite you to join us, our clients, friends, neighbors and anyone who interested in learning more about the complexities of mortgage lending and real estate transactions in Hawaii.

The first of the HomeSmart series will be held at the company’s Kaimuki Plaza office on July 31, 2019.  Future HomeSmart seminars will be planned for our Oahu offices in Hawaii Kai, Kahala, Ewa Beach and Haleiwa, and across the state.
