I do my best to blog regularly about Big Island horse properties, as there is no simple way to search the MLS or third party real estate sites for them. I also like to blog about homes for sale on acreage near Hawi, North Kohala as that is another popular request.
I just saw a new listing that checks both boxes…whether you have horses, or just want acreage for privacy and gardens or farming.
Horse Property: New Home, Guest House, Pastures and Orchard
I love how the new neighborhood of homes on agricultural acreage in Kapaʻau on Hall Road and Paipo Kane Road is shaping up. The lots ranged in size from 14 to 28 acres and so the homes are well spaced. Most of the lots have a portion of acreage in deep gulch, which offers additional privacy. And they have North-facing ocean and sometimes Maui views.
The new listing in this subdivision is on 19 acres. It includes a main home built in 2019 with 4 beds/3 baths and a 1 bed/1 bath guest house. The horses and the occupants of the home enjoy the ocean view.
The design is what I would describe as modern Hawaiian farmhouse, with ample use of details such as barn doors and apron kitchen sink. But where else does a farmhouse also have outdoor showers?
Behind the homes is a surprisingly well-established orchard on over an acre, fenced against feral pigs, with 50 fruit trees (some already bearing), a greenhouse, and a play area with treehouse, slide, and zipline! Below the home are fenced pastures for horses and plenty of room to add a barn or arena to play with them.
There are other horse-friendly properties on the market at the moment, but this one stands out for its other features.
