Homebuyer Tip – Don't Judge a House by its Paint Color

It hit me this weekend when I was sitting an open house that many of the people were thrown off by the prior owners’ flooring and paint selection and didn’t really look at the house. There was a deep red accent wall that was front and center. Much like when you meet a person for the first time, you can quickly make a determination of I like them or I don’t like them. I saw numerous people walk in, look at the paint, and it deterred their opinion of the house.

Point of the story is make sure you are looking at the property’s bones and not just the surface level. Paint is easy to change and someone shouldn’t miss out on a great home because of an easy fix like paint. Flooring on the other hand can be more expensive to replace, but it’s not always a deal breaker. Make sure you are giving a property a fair chance and don’t immediately get turned off because of something easily fixable.
