Kauai

Here’s What’s Happening on Kauai

I have to admit, living on an island during a pandemic has had its distinct advantages: isolation from the rest of the world; great weather; mostly caring and mellow people. But it also has had distinct disadvantages: you must travel by boat or plane; stores are stocked by barge and only twice a week; our economy is reliant on our visitors. These realities have never been more evident to me than over the last eight weeks.

For the most part, our tiny island community has been patient and considerate. Kauai’s Mayor has really stepped up, becoming a statewide, and now a national star, just for doing what he felt was right. And our efforts are working. In fact, Kauai is leading the state in the lowest infection levels, hospitalizations, and deaths—all zero! The biggest challenge we now face is figuring out how to allow visitors to return to Kauai without reintroducing the virus to our community. This presents quite a conundrum. Ultimately it will take a measured and tactical approach to slowly, but thoughtfully, welcome back the people who love Kauai so much.

In the meantime, Kauai real estate is still moving! According to recent reports by the National Association of Realtors, Buyers are buying properties sight unseen, and Sellers are for the most part, holding firm on their pricing. Virtual tours, great photography, and solid representation are the keys to our new reality in real estate.

New on the market and available for a virtual tour

If you’re suddenly not seeing a home you’ve had your eye on, call me. Many Sellers have been taking their properties off the market temporarily while we abide by the current mandates. If you see a home you like online, there’s likely a video available to view or it may be possible to arrange a virtual tour. For instance, click below to check out a Matterport tour of the home above:

So, to all the people who love Kauai so much, please be patient with us. We will get there, and when we do, we will welcome you back with open arms. Until then, virtual is the new reality! Mahalo Nui Loa and a Hui Hou!
