Hawaii Love Grant Recipient: Anaina Hou Community Park on Kauai

The Hawaii Life Charitable Fund (HLCF) chose Caring for our Keiki as its giving focus in 2018. The Hawaii Love grant program invited local nonprofits to apply. We received so many wonderful applications from organizations doing amazing work across the state of Hawaii.

One of the Hawaii Love grant recipients was Anaina Hou Community Park, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization on Kauai’s North Shore. The charitable nonprofit was awarded a $5,000 grant in August 2018. Anaina Hou Community Park was selected because their project proposal not only aligned with the HLCF’s 2018 giving focus, but also encouraged community involvement and togetherness. The park’s mission statement reads, “Anaina Hou Community Park provides a gathering place in Kilauea rooted in the values, history and culture of our diverse island community.”

Executive Director Thomas Daubert shared in a thank-you letter to the HLCF, “Your generous gift will join others from members of our community to support the creation of the lovely new Playground at Anaina Hou. Within this amazing 17,000 square foot space, the equipment, play structures and educational signage will invite keiki and adults to learn together about our Island’s dynamic past, and become inspired to co-create a sustainable future – while enjoying a safe, joyful space.

The Anaina Hou Campus is located in Kilauea, Kauai and was created with the intention of providing a gathering place for the community. Daubert shared that Anaina Hou features “Mini Golf and Gardens, a covered dining patio adjacent to our Café, Food Trucks and Gift Store, two weekly Farmers’ Markets featuring locally-grown food, a new Playground and two Skate Ramps for our keiki, HI-5 redemption and more.”  This year, Anaina Hou also opened the new Porter Pavilion. This lovely, covered gathering area is the perfect location for concerts, films, theater, lectures, luaus, wedding receptions and other community gatherings.
