Hawaii Island Hopping: Inter-Island Travel From the Big Island to O’ahu
Living on the Hilo side of Hawaii Island, aka the Big Island, gives great access to an island lifestyle…temperate weather, cheap, fresh produce, and a laid back attitude. With the Hilo International Airport only 10 minutes from my home in Pauka’a, I have access to the world…but the other Hawai’ian Islands offer so much that I prefer ‘Island Hopping’ for a quick travel fix.

Places to Visit on O’ahu
This weekend, I am visiting Honolulu on O’ahu…Waikiki to be specific. Staying at the lovely Halekulani Resort, oceanfront on Waikiki Beach, and soaking in the sites, shopping, and people watching that Hawai’i’s biggest city has to offer.
Diamond Head Market & Grill
Walking to Diamond Head Market and Grill for their famous blueberry scones is top of the list this morning, followed by shopping along Kalakaua Avenue and dinner at Nobu for world class sushi.

Iolani Palace
I also visited Iolani Palace for the first time on this trip. It is a stately, artfully built royal palace, the only one on American soil. Completed by King Kalakaua in 1882, the palace hosted royalty and dignitaries from around the world.

The palace is a must-see for anyone interested in Hawai’ian history, and an understanding of the grace and power with which the Kings and Queens of Hawai’i ruled.
Big Island Living: The Life I Love
Flying home to Hilo is a quick 50 minutes in the air and I’m greeted by the soft, fragrant air that I love. I’ll swing by Island Naturals, my favorite health food store, to pick up island fresh produce for dinner tonight and I’ll cook from my own kitchen with ocean views of Hilo Bay.
