Hawaii Interisland Travel is Open! Quarantine Lifted for Statewide Residents

Hawaii Interisland Travel is Now Open!!

Hawaii Interisland travel opened for Hawaii residents on June 16th, 2020. Hawaii’s Governor lifted the 14-day quarantine that applied event to local residents up until mid-June. On June 24th, Governor Ige also announced that the State of Hawaii will lift the 14-day quarantine for pre-tested, out-of-state travelers beginning on August 1st, 2020. Many Hawaii residents and visiting travelers will be happy that both of these restrictions have been removed.

If you’re like me and my ‘ohana (family), and you may want (or NEED) a change of scenery after months of staying home. Now is the time for island hopping! With airlines and hotels offering great kama’aina deals, it’s a perfect time to (safely) experience and enjoy the beauty of our islands. Also, if you’re planning to visit Hawaii from out of state, you can start to plan travel from August 1st, 2020 onwards, though you must have a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of your departure.

Governor David Ige, at a press conference held June 24, 2020, was quoted by Maui Now, saying:

“We will implement a pre-travel testing program for travelers to Hawaiʻi as an alternative to the 14-day mandatory quarantine,” said Gov. Ige. “Beginning Aug. 1, travelers who have a valid negative COVID-19 test prior to arriving will not be subject to the 14-day mandatory quarantine. The quarantine will remain in place for those who chose to not get a pre-travel test,” he said.

Our Hawaii Interisland Travels

With Hawaii interisland travel open to residents statewide, my family just spent four days over the Fathers’ Day weekend on Maui and we absolutely loved it!

From sunrise to sunset, our days were full of exploring the island, from mauka to makai (mountains to ocean). We visited the gorgeous beaches all along the West Maui coast and experienced the amazing snorkeling at Honolua Bay. We even did some horseback riding at Ironwood Ranch.

Rounding out our fun, we went cliff jumping by the Cliff House. We had such a wonderful time! The amazing views of the islands of  Molokai and Lanai, from horseback, were well worth the trip from O‘ahu.

Hawaii Interisland Travel to Maui

Because Maui has so much to offer, it is hard to fit it all into a weekend. There are hiking trails and Haleakala sunrise bike tours. In addition, you can experience stunning lavender fields in Kula, or take the road trip to Hana. These are just a few of the fantastic activities on Maui for which we did not have enough time.

We stayed at the newly opened Napili Village Hotel and spent our time in West Maui, Napili & Kapalua. You can visitGoHawaii.com and vacations.hawaiilife.com to help you plan your next adventure. Or don’t plan anything at all. Just relax on the beach, swim in the cool clear ocean, and take in Maui’s stunning sunsets.
