5 Acre Ocean View Haiku Bed and Breakfast for Sale, Maui

Introducing the Stice Team’s newest listing:

160 Nahele Rd, Haiku, Maui on the pristine North Shore proudly offered at $1,750,000

Have you ever wanted to live in an area one mile from the world renown surf break “Jaws,” 3 miles from world class wind and kite surfing at Hookipa Beach, yet is situated in a botanical garden surrounded by a huge variety of tropical palms and ornamental flowers?

Better yet, would you like to have this property be a licensed Maui bed and breakfast? If you are looking for change of pace and want to slow down a little, get some waves, and maybe have your own B&B, you should look carefully at this property (MLS# 351605).

The property that is home to this Haiku Bed & Breakfast has been owned by the Wilbur Ohana for 110 years. Ron and Barbara purchased the 5 acres from Ron’s family in the 1970’s, built the main home in 1985, and constructed the detached guest cottage in 2005. There is a tremendous amount of love and care poured into this property and it shows.

Why It’s Special

  1. The property is immaculately maintained with lush mature landscaping throughout the entirety of the lot.
  2. Privacy – the lot is located across from West Kuiaha Rd. on small road that runs through the pineapple fields down the ocean. It is very secluded and even more so with the landscaping that is in place.
  3. 160 Nahele Rd. is presently used as a legal bed and breakfast with a very successful track record over the past several years. Recent improvements have made the property totally compliant with county building code and permits for B & B. We ask that you consult a Maui attorney about the possibility of continuing this B&B operation.
  4. If you are not interested in a B&B, consider this property as a piece of art as it is totally immaculate and has been taken care of by Alain and Elisabeth, the residing caretakers (cottage occupants) for the last 10 years who oversee every aspect of the grounds and property management and who would love to stay on board. Alain and Elisabeth have put every ounce of hard work, passion, and love into the property. No one knows the property better than they do—they would love to continue their efforts here.

The Kitchen

I have a very strong personal connection with the kitchen — I milled the Koa that you see throughout this kitchen in the early 80s on my saw mill on the Big Island. Jeremy who was running around in his diapers at the time would help me move koa sawdust in his plastic wheel barrow in between eating handfuls of blueberries.

Upstairs

The upstairs of the home features an open floor plan with lots of windows which let in beautiful natural lighting enhanced by the rich open beam wood ceilings.

The upstairs of the home features the main living area, the kitchen, and two master suites with their own baths as pictured above.

Downstairs

The spiral staircase leads to the downstairs which has its own living area and an additional bedroom.

Outdoor Living

From the large deck of the main home enjoy the beautiful vistas of the valley below the property all the way to ocean and the silhouette of Molokai on especially clear days.

5 Acres

There are literally thousands of palms trees on the property to either pitch a hammock in between or to use an income source to pay Seabury Hall tuition like I did for my three children. A few steps down from the pool I really like the vistas from the view deck that sits below a mango tree overlooking the gulch towards the ocean.

Tropical flowers, Ti leaves, mangoes, avocados, ginger, citrus trees, traveler palms, areca palms, royal palms, princess palms, you name it and this property likely has it.

The Separate Cottage

Built in 2005, the charming plantation style guest cottage is 2 bedrooms with 2 full baths, is just under 1,000 sq.ft. of living area, and has 3 different covered sun decks. This is where Alain and Elisabeth currently live and would absolutely love to stay and continue to pour the love and hard work into this property.

Live and Love the North Shore Maui Life

Wake up early with the chickens, prepare breakfast for your guests and get out the door for dawn patrol at Hookipa or a walk on Baldwin Beach. Take your stand up paddle board because the wind won’t be up yet and grab some waves at outer Kanaha Beach. Head home and mow some grass, collect your next check from incoming guests as you check them in, and head back for some afternoon raging at Green Trees at Hookipa on your kite board.

Tired out? Head to Colleens in the Haiku Cannery for some late lunch and a siesta by your pool with your new guests. Call it a day or end the day as the wind dies for a few waves at Pavillions at Hookipa Beach on your long board.

“Double Rainbow” by Angie at Baldwin Beach – a beautiful white sand beach 10 minutes from 160 Nahele Rd.

I am here to help make it happen. Aloha.

Love the presentation of the property, but it does not do the house and property justice. It is such a spectacular place and pictures just cannot show it all.

Hawaii and that upcountry feeling but at the beach. All its splendor wants me to be an Hawaiian- at least at heart.

Privacy and luxury are the key words here. I have been a guest as well as rented the house and conducted psychic/spiritual workshops and retreats free of distractions in the beautiful, peaceful setting. The house and cottage were physically constructed by the owner himself and his attention to detail is quite apparent. The energy over the entire property is pure and authentic and with any luck, you might see the playful minehunes keeping watch over the Mana . . .

I have had the good fortune over the last decade or so of spending many a month at this gorgeous estate property as family friend and contractor for the Wilburs. Ron’s original work building the home showed great attention to detail and obtaining that “Hawaiian feel” thus setting the bar high for my work there. Whereas I would do plenty of sight seeing on Maui when time allowed, I frequently would just stay and relax soaking in the beauty of this fabulous place.

What a beautiful “Peace of Paradise”!

Bias? For sure as we have been caring for it for a number of years now but also because the owners have done such a wonderful job at landscaping it with multiple coconut palms that have matured gracefully over the years and that are now embracing the main house overlooking the North Pacific ocean. This house reflects the warmth and loving nature of its owners and will put you immediately in a relaxing and comfortable mood as soon as you step in with its wood richness and rustic feel. Simply said, it is a place to enjoy life at its best in complete privacy, a rarity nowadays!

I have known the Wilburs for 25 years and built kitchen and bath cabinets for both houses. Becoming friends with these wonderful folks gave me the chance to return for casual get togethers and celebrations. I have observed the continuing improvement and maturation of the plantings. The site has amazing mountain and ocean views and overlooks a fabulous green gulch.
Today it stands out as a testament to Ron and Barbara’s vision of contemporary Hawaiian living. Lucky the person who gets to own it next.

After several trips to Hawaii and having stayed at some four and five star hotels we decided to rent the Wilbur’s home for our last trip and were so very glad we did. From the moment we entered the driveway we felt at home and immediately changed some of our plans to include time spent not leaving the property for an entire day. Peaceful, relaxing and beautiful are words that come to mind but do not do it justice. Our biggest regret is that the home may not be available for our next trip to the islands!

I stayed at the Pole House with my family (mother-in-law, husband and two children) two years ago. It is (hands down) our best family vacation!!! All of us loved it. The kids were in the pool most of the day and didn’t want to leave the grounds. I loved sitting on the deck, cooking in the kitchen and/or just feeling the trade wind breeze while relaxing in the living room. I love the open style of the living room area.

We were just talking about the Pole House last week and how we really wanted to go back and do it all over again. When I think of Hawaii, all I can think of is how I want to go back to that house and property. It is gorgeous, relaxing and has the best “energy” of any place I have stayed.

The last time my husband and I got to take a vacation (4 years ago!) we went to Maui–our favorite place for private time and we started here. It is a slice of HEAVEN. You really feel like you are tucked away in this really stunning place that is quiet and yet just a few miles from a great little town, wonderful places to eat, but we found that all we wanted to do was hang out HERE.
I’m actually quite sad that this is for sale. We live on a private lake in Oregon (Fishhawk Lake), so it’s like being on vacation all of the time…much like this property would be for someone who should buy it.

Our family (including grown “kids” and their spouses) are staying at this wonderful estate this week — and have been impressed by both the beautifully designed home and the lushly planted grounds. It’s wonderfully private – far from the maddening crowds. We’ve enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean while the birds arrive at the feeder each morning. A sublime spot!

Stayed here for a week, Lovely and beautiful place. Pictures dont do justice, must see in person to take it all in. If I happen to get struck by lighting and win the mega lotto tonite would buy tommorow.

I was lucky enough to stay here in 2007 to attend my brother’s wedding in Lahaina. We had 7 people in our group and plenty of room! This was my 2nd trip to Maui and I’m very glad we decided to stay in this house instead of a hotel. It was a GREAT family vacation. We did not want to leave the property once we arrived. The pictures really do not do this property justice! Beautifullly landscaped property and beautiful house. We enjoyed sitting on the deck each morning watching the sunrise and the birds eating out of the feeder.

This is one of the most beautiful properties I have had the privilege of staying in. The privacy is wonderful-like there’s no one else on the planet. You can see the water from the house and yard. Room for entertaining. HUGE hot tub…room for the neighbors-well, if you had any. Truly this is a must see property. If I could afford it (and I have really tried to talk my husband into it) I’d snatch it up in a heart beat. It is a steal at this price.

I love this property: the space, the light, the feeling of openness. As soon as you enter, you can’t help but feel peaceful. I have been a visitor several times and each time I come away feeling relaxed. The house itself is well-situated, with lovely vistas. And, the property is immaculately maintained.

I could go on and on about this property. We rented it for our family when we got married there and were dissapointed that we didn’t just rent it for ourselves. We have since been looking for people whom we consider Maui worthy to come and rent this property with us and enjoy the beautiful island with us. We so hope to return to the island at some point hoping this property is again available. If we could we would snatch this property up, on a good note we have been blessed with 2 very busy children who take up our time and our money. Maybe when this home is up for sale in the future we can try to take advantage of buying this property then. A beautiful relaxing place for all whom have stayed there.

What a gorgeous place! When my family and I stayed there, it seemed to me the most peaceful place on earth. Waking up to light rain showers, tropical birds singing, and warm sunshine later that morning, I felt I never wanted to leave.
