Participate in the Grand Green Homes Tour in Waimea, Kohala, and Kona

The homes are greener on the Hawaiian side of the fence! Come experience them on Sunday, May 1st, 2011 in Kona, Waimea, and Kohala. A total of 12 homes are exhibited on the tour.

This weekend won’t be all about garage sales, farmer’s markets, shopping in Kona, or Mai Tais on the beach, it will also be about the Première of Kona-Kohala Grand Green Homes Tour. With your participation, hopefully it will become an annual event. It is presented by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and the West Hawaii Mediation Center.

For just $20/ticket you can see the 4 homes in your chosen area, Sunday, May 1st 2011, and get inspired by Big Island homes that feature sustainable renewable energy, providing an education about building, decorating, and landscaping ideas that are earth friendly. If you don’t have a ticket yet, you can purchase one at the homes at the day of the event.

If you have questions, they will be answered by local businesses that are featured at each house and you will see first hand their product operation. It is a unique learning and green experience right in each of the 3 regions of West Hawaii: Kona, Waimea, and Kohala. Click on the program to read about the home descriptions, time of the event depending on the location, and directions to the properties.

This event would not have seen the light of day without the generosity of volunteers, the participation of numerous local sponsors, and the devotion of North Kohala friends who were committed to share their passion for green living. Eila and Holly Algood of Algood Living LLC have worked hard to make it all good for you!

We count on you Sunday…this is a chance to make the reduction of your carbon footprint on earth a reality.

Catherine – I just read an article about Barrie Rose’s compact “moveable” green homes… do you know if those are going to be on the tour?

Great Blog. Promotion of this is so essential to all and your blog is direct and informative and just makes you want to attend. As a volunteer on the tour I am only sad that I won’t be able to view all the homes.

@Beth – are you doing the full tour or just Kohala? I will be in Waimea!
@Katie – yes, Barrie Rose’s compact green homes will be part of the Waimea tour (called Wai’aka Homestead & Paniolo Habitat).
@Linda – thank you for your support and your passion with your volunteer work for West Hawaii Mediation Center for the past 12 years, as a past Board member and Board President.

What a great blog Catherine! I would love to go on the next Green Tour! This is a great idea for clients who want to experience different climates & lifestyles to see where they would like to be, and have all their needs met off-the-grid. Mahalo Frenchie!
