Going Back or Starting Over?

If you are like most people, you are probably yearning for a return to “normal.” Totally understandable. We all miss our pre-Covid routines and lives, but what if we saw this whole thing as an opportunity to start something new?

Letting Go & Changing it Up

If you run a business, are there some things that weren’t working before? Things you can now discard or change up? Has this pandemic created some new ways of doing things that might make for a better, more successful tomorrow? Perhaps you are a busy mom? Are there some opportunities for you to start new routines? To build better relationships? Have you discovered that all those activities aren’t really necessary? Or, maybe you are a senior. Might this be a chance for you to change things up a bit? After all, you’re never too old to try something new.

No matter your past or current situation (or how bad all of this has been), the right perspective can fill you with excitement and anticipation about the future.

Better Than Before

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go back to the status quo. I want to go back to better. A better business model, a better lifestyle, and a better me. If you want to learn and to grow,  it starts with looking for the opportunities in all of this. It starts by changing your thinking. Rather than say, “I can’t wait to go back to normal,” change your outlook and your words. Why not say, “I can’t wait to start over.”

Try Something New

Starting over allows us freedom and flexibility to try new things. It energizes us and provides us margin to create, re-think, and to change. Look, nothing is going to be what it was. This pandemic has changed everything. Yes, we need to mourn for what has been lost. And, we can look back on what we held dear with fond memories. But, we need to look forward to starting something new. There is beauty in new beginnings and fresh starts. And, there is excitement. I’m excited. Are you?

I love the following quote by Steve Jobs:

“The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the lightness of starting over and the freedom to be creative. I hope you are, too!
