Gen Z – Is it Time to Buy?

Were you born after 1996? If so, you are a member of the Gen Z generation. And, according to a recent survey, you value homeownership and you may be starting to think about buying a home. Even if you aren’t ready to jump into the housing market, you’ve at least given it some thought and done some research. You may even be saving up for a down payment. Regardless of whether or not you are starting to save for a home, studies indicate that you want to buy in the future. In fact, 33% of those belonging to the Gen Z generation want to buy in the next 2-5 years.

What Are Your Real Estate Goals?

Based on research, Gen Z members are a self-reliant bunch. You are goal-oriented and good at multi-tasking. Gen Zs are racially and ethnically diverse, progressive, and perhaps the most educated generation yet. You are also digital natives. You have little or no memory of the world as it existed before smartphones. If you are going to buy real estate, you’ll want easy access to information and real estate data. Social media and the latest and greatest in technology will be important to you and your search.

If you are a member of the Gen Z generation, there may be many reasons why you are thinking about buying real estate. Perhaps you want more space? Are you getting serious about your relationship with a significant other? Are you starting to think about raising a family? Perhaps you desire a move to the suburbs. Less density apparently ranks high for members of your generation, especially in light of the pandemic. Real estate purely as an investment may also intrigue you. Whatever your reasons are for thinking about real estate, your generation will make an impact on the real estate market in the near future. You are moving into your home buying years and you are being noticed.

It’s Never Too Soon to Plan

Though you may not be quite ready to buy, it’s never too soon to start planning. And, it’s never too soon for those of us in the real estate industry to start learning about your housing preferences. It may be too early for us to have a good handle on your housing desires, but it’s not too early to reach out to you to let you know that we are eager to help you prepare. You are the next generation of home buyers and you will influence and shape housing choices and design. You will have a voice in our industry. A big voice. What trends will you set? What will grab your attention and what new dynamic will you bring to the way we do business?
