First Annual Tiki Festival Kicks Off Nov. 16

Get your tiki on!

The first annual Tiki Festival is going to be held November 16-18 in Kailua-Kona and Mauna Lani Resort with lots of great food, art, music, and more. Celebrating all aspects of tiki culture, including a “California Castaways in Hawaii” art show, the festival will feature the artwork of local artist Brad “Tiki Shark” Parker, and several mainland artists, such as Doug Horne, Ken Ruzic, and Tom “Big Toe” Laura.

Paul Kozak, “Kozy”, a local magician and businessman, is hosting the festival. It kicks off on November 16 from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Don’s Mai Tai Bar within the Royal Kona Resort in downtown Kailua-Kona. Legendary Hawaiian musician Henry Kapono will perform and Sam Choy, one of Hawaii’s most well-known chefs, will offer poke tastings.

The second and third days of the festival will take place at Mauna Lani Resort. On Friday, November 17, at Kozy’s Tiki Palace from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the Shops at Mauna Lani there will be wine and cheese tastings, live music and talk story sessions with the artists.

Saturday, November 18, is the big Festival from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with 40 vendors, two tiki bars, two live bands, lots of delicious food and demonstrations. This is the first ever Tiki Festival here and event organizers are hoping it will grow into a popular annual event like tiki festivals on the mainland. In any event, it sounds like a great time to check out some great tiki art, awesome live music, and ono grinds.
