Ewa Beach Lagoon Construction Starting Up

It has been a very long road for the Haseko owned lagoon area in Ewa Beach. What once was imagined as a deep water marina has now morphed into a commercial development. Years of rumors, the starting of bridges, and more have come and gone but now it appears that is moving full steam ahead.

Phase 1

Phase 1 was to clean up the beach and help move out the unpermitted campers. For years many groups have conducted extensive beach and area clean-ups just to come back a few days later and see the rubbish all over again. The Covid lockdown and closing of the beach parks helped spearhead the non permitted campers moving off the park grounds. This like most of the Covid enforcement was done by uniformed and plainclothes police issuing citations, warnings, and tickets. It now does finally feel like the park is under control. The debris and rubbish have been cleared out and you can start to see the beauty of the park and the unobstructed views of town with the surfers enjoying the winter swells.

Phase 2

Phase 2 is also now started with an $810K renovation project at Oneula Beach Park, better known locally as Hau Bush. This has started with the road work that includes newly sealed asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalks and curbs, traffic signs, speed bumps, and the removal of damaged trees. Once done the new parking area with have 60 regular and 5 ADA compliant parking spaces. The bridge that connects the Haseko development of Hoakalei @ Kuapapa is also finally being worked on. This will connect the Haseko developments with the lagoon development.

The homeowners have been noticed and fences are going up across from the Hoakalei country club’s main structure and nearest the Wai Kai Lagoon. This finally signifies the start of the commercial development around the waterline. No official news of what is being built as far as the tenants go but rumors are flying about hotels, possible timeshares, high-end restaurants, and shopping. The vision seems to be around making the Hoakalei and Ewa Beach are the premier spots for shopping, nature trails, restaurants, and water activities on Oahu.

In the recent few months, the housing prices have also seemed to adjust upward possibly in anticipation of this new resort destination. The Hoakalei communities have always touted resort-style living and it appears now to all be coming together. The extremely low-interest rates coupled with low inventory have drastically spiked the home prices. One recent sale of a luxury golf course home just recorded at $1.6M. Some of the 4 bedroom non-golf course frontage prices have risen over 12% in the last 8 weeks now averaging the mid $900 range for communities such as Hoakalei @ Kuapapa, the newest and last Haseko development as of now. This is a great time for sellers who bought new starting about 4 years ago and have seen some great appreciation and also for new buyers that see the future of Ewa Beach and all the positive things here and coming soon.
