New Kauai COVID-19 Travel Rules

As of the time of this publication in mid-January, new cases of COVID-19 remain fairly stable with an average of 2 new daily cases, with some being travel-related and some being designated as community spread. There are currently 19 active cases on Kauai. Effective January 5, 2021, the Mayor of Kauai, with the Governor’s approval, has implemented new emergency rules governing interisland travel inbound to Kauai, as well as additional quarantine options for travelers coming from beyond the state.

Interisland Travel

Interisland travelers to Kauai can now bypass quarantine. In order to do so, one must have already been present in the state for at least three days and must also register in the state’s Safe Travels PreTravel Testing Program with evidence of a negative test within 3 days prior to the interisland travel.

Transpacific Travel

Transpacific travelers now have the possibility to do have a reduced quarantine of only 3 days via Resort Bubbles on Kauai. In order to do so, one must again register in the state’s Safe Travels PreTravel Testing Program and provide evidence of a negative test result upon arrival. They will then be permitted to visit one of Kauai’s designated resorts offering an enhanced quarantine allowing participants to move around designated areas of the resort. After three days, participants can take a post-travel test and upon a negative result will be excused from quarantine.

The aforementioned quarantine program is voluntary, and visitors are alternatively allowed to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.
