Waialua, Hawaii

Today we’re going to head out to the North Shore. We’re going to explore Waialua, Hawaii.

In Waialua, there is a hidden tucked away shopping center that has a gas station, yoga, massage therapy, coffee shop, and a general store that has everything you need. On Wednesdays, they grill fresh meat for plate lunches. On the other side, there is a pizza restaurant and more. This is a great place to shop and eat, plus it offers its residents everything they need.

Waialua Sugar Plantation

The Waialua Sugar Plantation started in 1865 and did not do well initially. It did have success by holding the largest capacity for water storage in the state. At its highest point, it was producing 20,000 tons of sugar.

In 1996, the old sugar mill was abandoned and operations stopped. Now the sugar mill houses more than 30 companies featuring local crafts and artists. You can pick coffee and cocoa beans, stop by the soap shop, get your surfboard repaired and visit the farmers’ market on Saturdays. There is also Banyans, where you can grab a bite to eat plus other shops to visit.

Dillingham Airfield

Did you know there is an airport in Waialua? This is a public and military airport. We’ve heard the Dillingham Airfield will be closing. The State Department of Transportation plans to end its lease with the Army in June. Most planes flying in and out of Dillingham Airfield hold skydivers. If you’re driving by, you’ll probably see skydivers up in the sky taking in the gorgeous views.

Kaʻena Point State Park

As you drive towards Kaʻena Point State Park, you’ll see breathtaking views of the ocean and beaches. You can take a hike at Ka’ena Point Trail, walk the beaches, find shells and explore the tidepools. If you plan on hiking Ka’ena Point Trail, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat. Start the hike early because there is no shade.

Dillingham Ranch

The Dillingham Ranch is a stunning property that has over 2,700 acres. At the Ranch, they use to hold weddings but due to COVID, everything has stopped for the time being. I hope this place will be able to open up again. This is a beautiful place for a wedding.

Hawaii Polo Club

The Hawaii Polo Club was established in 1963 and now offers polo matches, lessons, weddings, and special events. Next door is the Hawaii Polo Oceanfront trail rides that offer guests a unique opportunity to ride a horse on the sandy beach. We did this during sunset and it was amazing.
