New Direct Air Service From China to Hawaii Increases Chinese Visitor Numbers – Will Hawaii Real Estate Be Attractive to Chinese Investors?
On the 9th of this month, a first-time, direct Chinese airline flew from Shanghai, China to Honolulu, Hawaii. The Hawaii Tourism Authority projects that more than 91,000 visitors from China are to arrive this year.

HTA President and CEO, Mike McCartney, says the new route comes after Hawaii tourism officials worked aggressively to secure direct air service from China. It’s expected to provide up to $60 million in annual visitor expenditures and stimulate new jobs in the state.

What about the Hawaii real estate market, will it be attractive to Chinese buyers?
In July, 2011, the median price paid for a single family home on Oahu was $591,000 (which is a decrease of 2.2% compared to July, 2010) and $277,000 for a condominium (which is a decrease of 7.7% compared to July, 2010).
During July sales, 251 single-family homes and 300 condominiums were reported through the Board’s MLS, a decrease of 7% for single-family homes and a decrease of 8.3% for condominiums, compared to the same month of last year.

The real estate market price is going down and the stock market is crashing. Those two factors should attract more foreign investors looking for more real estate investment.
