The Alex and Duke Derego Foundation Makes a Difference with Hawaii’s Youth

One of the people I admire and respect highly, Shirley Derego, has taken the tragedy of losing two sons and decided to give back to the community. I would like to share the two specific points to the mission statement to the Alex and Duke Derego Foundation.

The Foundation’s Goal

Our goal and the mission of the foundation is to provide young people the right skills to empower them with knowledge and awareness that will safeguard their lives and the lives of others. The foundation’s goal is also to create awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation in our community.

Even one life lost to unpreparedness near the ocean or injury, where help in providing First Aid/CPR is crucial to life saving, is one life lost too many.

Shirley and her husband, Lamar, would like to give children access to CPR classes in order to empower them with the ability to be able to respond to life threatening situations. They also support the Jr. Lifeguard program. Please log on to the web site to meet Alex and Duke Derego.
