Join the Hawaii Life Oahu Team and AccesSurf for ‘A Day at the Beach’ This Saturday

Help Us to Create An Ocean of Possibilities!

If there’s one thing that distinguishes Hawaii life, it’s our daily communion with the ocean. Whether you’re surfing waves or gazing at the sunset from your lanai with a cocktail in hand, taking a quick dip to cool off or hiking a ridge trail to enjoy a sweeping view of the Pacific, you are never far from the water’s edge. Native Hawaiians didn’t typically build their homes close to the water, as they never imagined a day when they wouldn’t be in the water!

There are so many ways to enjoy the ocean that surrounds us. We love jumping in and letting the salt water wash over us. Getting salty is said to relax your muscles, reduce stress, and activate the body’s own healing mechanisms. We at Hawaii Life want to share that experience with everyone, both near and far. That’s why our Oahu team will be out in full force this coming Saturday, September 9 to assist and support the efforts of the experienced volunteers and staff from AccesSurf.

If you’ve never experienced ‘A Day at the Beach with this incredible non-profit organization, we invite you to join us for this event! AccesSurf provides adaptive surfing, shoreline flotation, and swimming for residents and visitors with physical or cognitive challenges. Their free “Day at the Beach” events are held monthly, on the first Saturday of each month at White Plains Beach Park on Oahu from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Their team of experienced volunteers use adaptive equipment and flotation devices to assist participants in entering and exiting the ocean, and to stay afloat once in the water. The AccesSurf team understands the positive momentum that’s ignited when a challenge is conquered, or a dream comes true. Their mission is to create An Ocean of Possibilities for participants and their families, by making ocean access and therapeutic recreation available to everyone.

We are looking forward to sharing this special day with participants and volunteers and we hope you can join us! To learn more about AccesSurf, check out this blog post by Cheryl Ann Gillotti, RA. If you can’t make it this Saturday, please visit the AccesSurf events page for future events and updates. AccesSurf also holds a monthly event for Wounded Warriors — a day of adaptive ocean activities for active-duty military personnel and their families.
