Introducing La’i Loa, a New Generation of Development, to Wailea

The Wailea Hills Collection sales gallery opened early in 2020 at The Shops at Wailea. In March 2020, 5 units went under contract. Alas, subsequent global shutdowns and halt to travel coincided with its launch. As such, it wasn’t until June that we saw the momentum gain. By which time, sales were underway in earnest. In fact, in record time, all 75 units had effectively sold out by the following summer, in June 2021.

A gated community at the north end of Wailea Alanui Road and Okolani Drive, its secure entrance sits atop Kai Malu Drive. La’i Loa cascades downhill to Wailea Alanui Drive with its south-facing side buffering the famed Wailea Blue Golf Course.

Today, we see the delivery of Phase 1 of 4 phases, which is on target for its projected completion date of summer 2024.

Phase 1 saw buildings 10-15 completed from the end of October to mid-December, with excited new homeowners receiving the keys to their new properties.

Subsequently, Phase 2 will see delivery of completed buildings 7-9. The amenity center, including infinity pool, fitness center, sauna, spa and stream room, lawn terrace with fire pit, garden oasis and pathways and outdoor dining areas, will follow. The balance of buildings are on target for completion by early summer.

The boutique-style 3-story buildings each consist of 5 units for a total of 75 homes. There are fifteen penthouse 4-bedroom 3.5-bathroom units of approximately 2587 sq ft, plus 778 sq ft lanai space.

Each building has two 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condos, of approximately 1374 sq ft with spacious 312+ sq ft lanai at the second level. The ground floors benefit from approximately 353 sq ft for the added uncovered lanai space. On both the first and second floors you will find one 2-bedroom and one 3-bedroom unit. The 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom units are approximately 1742 sq ft with 424 sq ft lanai space at the second level, 465 sq ft at ground level.

The developer recognized the opportunity to give the already remarkable ground-level lanais approximately an additional 40 sq ft. Here the owners can enjoy extra uncovered lanai space. The lanais are a significant feature which promotes and defines the interior/exterior lifestyle afforded here, island living at its finest.

All of the buildings are ocean facing, thoughtfully positioned to maximize views.

As well as the 3 floor plans, there is the flip-flop version of these same floor plans. SEVEN of the buildings have the 2-bedroom stack on the north side of the building and the 3-bedroom stack sitting south side. The exterior buildings that line Wailea Alanui Road, namely buildings 13-15, are reverse floor plans. The buildings that sit juxtaposed Wailea Blue Golf Course, buildings 4, 6, 9 and 12, also feature the reverse floor plans. The interior buildings including buildings 1 and 2 are considered the regular floor plans.

The Preciously Kept Ancient Preservation Area

Not least, the space between buildings and its low density feel offers further appeal to this brand new community.

Although 13 acres, only 10 of these are developed with the north side a preservation area. Land here is to be cared for by the AOAO as a historic open space. Tools and petroglyphs have been discovered dating back to the 1400s on this land.

As Wailea’s oldest trace of its past evidence points to this having been a resting place where Hawaiians stopped on their way upland, making camp, and carving tools. This is an historic and vital piece of Wailea’s ancestry. La’i Loa has respectfully integrated its love of the ‘aina, Aloha ‘aina, with distinct regard for this piece of its land.

Ledcor has also thoughtfully gifted the Wailea Community Association with a sidewalk that wraps from Wailea Alanui Drive up Okolani alongside this preservation area.

Welcome to La’i Loa

You’ll find the gated entrance to the community at the top of Kai Malu Drive. Further accommodating this new development was the recent installation of a traffic light at the top of Okolani to Piilani to ease the access to the highway.

There is a pedestrian gate at the bottom of the property onto Wailea Alanui Drive. This gives easy access to Wailea resort with its top beaches, including Keawakapu, just minutes away for the ritual daily beach walk.

Just moments away is the first of a string of Wailea’s world-class resort properties, Andaz. Here, too, you find the start of the epic beach path that trails the shoreline like a necklace that joins the oceanside resorts of Wailea and its famous beaches.

Don’t forget, once the amenity center is completed, you’ll be hard pressed to want to leave the property. It will include two spa-like bathrooms with steam rooms and saunas, a fitness center with top-of-the-line gym equipment, outdoor dining areas and a covered lounge, an expansive infinity edge pool, a large spa, a fire pit, and games areas.

Although the community has sold out, there are currently two units on the market which are resales. If you are moving to Hawaii, this is a perfect landing as it is solely a residential property. In other words, no vacation rentals here! Also, if you are moving with your beloved pets, La’i Loa welcomes two pets per unit.
