3 Remarkable Benefits of Riverfront Living in Kauai

Kauai is famous for its lush landscape and beautiful green mountain slopes. The waterfalls, rivers and streams thought the island are another draw that feed the tropical landscape on the Garden Island (Kauai’s Islands other name). The beautiful ocean front beaches properties are a huge draw to tourists and locals.

Today, I wanted to highlight another type of waterfront lifestyle, that is classically Kauai, riverfront living. Specifically, life along Hulē‘ia, by Nawiliwili Bay. Flowing into the pacific ocean, the Hulē‘ia is the largest stream that feeds Nawiliwili Bay, so that many refer to it as Hulē‘ia River. Life along this picturesque water way brings many advantages. Here are my top 3:

1. Active Lifestyle Riverfront Style

A community near the river in Kauai gives way to a unique active lifestyle. A favorite recreational activity is canoe paddling. Frequent paddlers often belong to a canoe club, such as Kaiola Canoe Club.

In addition to canoe paddlers, stand up paddlers are often seen enjoying the river.

Hiking is another popular recreational activity. You don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy many walking and hiking trails nearby.

2. Kauai’s Rich History and Culture

Grove Farm Homestead – Grove Farm offers authentic experiences of Kauai’s sugar cane heritage. Acquired in 1864 by George N. Wilcox, Grove Farm is a beautifully preserved one hundred acre homestead in the center of Lihue that includes the original plantation main house, owner’s cottage, guest cottage, old office, as well as other resident and plantation workers’ housing camp.

Kaua’i Museum – The Albert Spencer Wilcox Building is a historic building in Līhuʻe. Originally a library when it opened in 1924, it was later converted into the Kauaʻi Museum. It has exhibits on the history of the island of Kauaʻi.

The Menehune Fishpond, also known as Alakoko Fishpond. This fishpond has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

3. The Views

The Mountain Views and Kauai’s lush forest are impressive. These are views that we have seen in movies like “Jurassic Park” and from the Indiana Jones series “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

The views from the Nawiliwili Harbor are beautiful too. You can enjoy serene moments simply watching the ships sail in and out of the harbor.
