The massive run up of the yen against the dollar recently has left the Japanese feeling very rich and they are excited to spend their new found “wealth” in Hawaii. The yen hit a 14 year high against the U.S. Dollar last week and has gained 11 percent in the past 6 months reaching 84.83 per dollar. In the good ole’ days (1980’s), the average honeymooning couple from Japan showed up in Hawaii with $20,000 in cash to shop. Check it out: Soaring Yen
Start brushing up on your Japanese! 😉

Great point Rod! I’m glad we’ve got an agent coming on board soon on Oahu that’s fluent in Japanese! I’ve also noticed a number of Canadians coming back into our marketplace with the weak U.S. dollar
