On the Eastside of Oahu, there is an abundance of breaks to pass away the days.
Along the Gold Coast of Diamond Head, there are a number of places, that during summer, are amazingly fun to surf.
Old Man’s
First is Old Man’s (Out front of Outrigger Canoe Club). Usually uncrowded with a very friendly and easy going crowd. Waves range from 1-3ft.
Tongs
A close second is Tongs, located to the left of Old Man’s. A more powerful wave than Old Man’s, when it’s breaking well, it’s a great intermediate and up wave. Only warning is it can get very shallow so be aware and make sure to pancake when bailing! Ranges from 1-3ft.
Diamond Head
Diamond Head or ‘Cliffs’ has an abundance of breaks within the central area down from the peak of Diamond head road. It is a mixture of beginners to advanced and is usually windy. It’s almost always busy, so be sure to be careful where you decide to paddle out. Ranges from 1-4ft.
Canoes
Going down the other direction of the coast is Canoes in Central Waikiki. This is arguably the best beginner spots in Hawaii. This is however also probably the busiest spot on the island. If you go out early 6am or earlier, it’s usually not too busy and there are a few waves to be had.
Where ever you choose to surf, the most important thing is to stay safe and have fun!
