What was it like to live in Hawaii in 1939? The newspaper below is something you might have bought at the store. You may have transported yourself to the store on a horse, or a car, but if you drove a car and you were on Maui, you would be navigating through luscious muddy dirt roads.

An Elegant Country Farm House in the Verdant Countryside of Haiku, Maui
Imagine your excitement returning from the store, newspaper in hand, as the construction of your new house is nearing completion. The roofing material is on, the paint has dried, and it’s time to move in. Maybe you would have your first lunch in this room – bathed in filtered light through the many ornate windows…

They Don’t Build Them Like They Used To…
Come to this West Kuiaha property and I will show you proof of the above. I can’t believe this house is nearly 80 years old. This is one of the few houses on Maui that actually has a basement as part of its foundation! This house was the crowning jewel of one of the island’s pre eminent chicken farms. Many of the farming structures still exist, and as you walk through the gardens, you can imagine the former bustle of birdsongs and clucking chickens.
Vintage Workmanship in the Windows & Hardware Details
Take a look at a window from this era – they are typically beautifully constructed with hidden counter weights, lovely finish details, and made to last. Doors are substantial, as are the doorknobs and other fasteners used throughout the house.
I love the multi-paned glass door and the solid original hardware seen below:
Prime Location in Haiku – Minutes to Dining & Famed Jaws Surf Spot
There’s a lot of bang for your buck on this property of roughly 3 acres, including many other outbuildings, barns, and workshop spaces. Much to explore here!
This property is listed by KW Island Living. I would be thrilled to represent you as a buyer of this rare and private historical oasis.

Liam, this looks like Chauncy Stubbs old house that used to be part of his chicken farm. In 1980 , when they closed the chicken farm, I bought two of their laying boxes made of redwood. I still have one of them in my chicken coop and gets eggs every day. Am I correct ?
