As a realtor, one of my favorite groups of people to work with are seniors. And I’m talking about the real seniors — aged 70 and up. This generation has lived through so many changes in our world, some things we can only read about.
Caring For Our Kupuna
These are our Kupuna, in Hawaiian meaning ancestor or grandparent. They deserve our respect and especially our care in everything.
Oh, the stories! I love listening to the many colorful memories and sometimes dark moments in my clients’ lives and going through all the photos they love to share.
So many cherished moments in homes they have lived in for generations — many for a lifetime!
Children were born and raised in these homes, enjoying backyard games, bicycle races up and down the driveway, skinned knees, as well as serious discussions — sometimes angry or tearful, at the kitchen table. Birthdays, BBQs, and gatherings with neighbors that feel like family and the grocery store where everyone knows your name. Weddings, grandchildren and unfortunately illness have all happened in these homes lived in for 30, 40, even 50 years or more. Oh, if the walls of these beloved homes could talk!
Many Seniors I have talked with want to stay in their own home or “Age in Place,” rather than move into a smaller home or even Assisted Living. They are healthy, active members of their communities and love their familiar surroundings. But sometimes it does not become an option. Sometimes it is time to sell.
Senior Real Estate Specialist
Selling a home that is part of your entire life is not easy and full of emotions. As a Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES), I can help guide you and/or your loved ones smoothly through this process with patience and care. My special listing services offer help with planning, purging, decluttering, moving, and staging. We can take as much time as needed — talking story along the way!
Take some time to talk with your loved ones about future living options for you or your Kupuna. In what seems like a blink of an eye, that cherished house may become too big to take care of and may no longer be a safe place to live. It is never too early to start planning for this next exciting phase of our lives, making new memories to share with the next generations. ~ Aloha, Gina

I think I am one of those “seniors”, especially since I will be 74 in October and still doing a few sales here and there but mainly enjoying life.
If any of those seniors would like to relocate to the Big Island, especially on the west side, send them over Gina!
Warmest Aloha,
