Why I'm Proud to be a Hawaii Life Real Estate Broker/Soccer Mom – The Soccer Mom Blog
Welcome to my first official “Soccer Mom” blog…
What a blessing it has been to live on this beautiful island for the past 21 years. I never dreamed when I arrived in 1990 that this was where I’d settle with my husband and start our family, but that’s just what happened. Along the way, I decided that a career in real estate would allow me a career I love while offering me the flexibility to be available to raise my children.
At the same time…I never dreamed that “soccer mom” would be a term used to describe me. I have three children…Nikki (14), Joey (10), and Tommy (7). Our lives revolve around their soccer. Dad coaches while I do the background things…scheduling, trip planning, uniforms, etc. We actually have our own club now…Po’okela Soccer Club. Po’okela, translated from Hawaiian, meaning “striving for excellence.”
We try very hard to live by these words. Striving for excellence, to us, means always giving 100% of ourselves…whether in school, on the field, in our relationships, or in our work.
The actual game of soccer is only one small part of why my husband and I became involved with soccer. While it’s an exciting game, these children playing soccer are learning so much more than just how to play a game. They’re learning about commitment, respect, sportsmanship, and countless other lessons that will help them throughout their lives…long after their soccer days are over. This is why I’m proud to be called a soccer mom.
As they get older, this soccer journey has allowed my children some amazing opportunities. My daughter and I just returned from a week at the University of Idaho where she participated in an Olympic Development Program. There she was, at 14 years old, being exposed to soccer coaches from colleges and universities from all over the country. She was learning how this game could open so many doors to an amazing future. I was so proud that her dedication and hard work had taken her to this point. I wish I would have learned that at such an early age…but better late than never.
I returned home with renewed enthusiasm for my career. I will continue to live by the words “striving for excellence” when dealing with my clients. Whether you’re looking for your first home in Makawao, or an investment property in Wailea, you can be assured that I will be “striving for excellence” throughout the process.

Kris,
I am pround of you and Carl for being such strong parents and supporting your beautiful family. Remembering Nikki as a baby cruising around the office at Paradise Found Properties makes it seem like it was yesterday. Hopefully other parents will look to your expertise in Upcountry Maui for some real estate deals as I know you know the market and the community as well as any agent. Thank you for sharing ” Po’kela ” , keep it up.
