Puako – A Widely Sought After Small Town Community in West Hawaii

When considering where you want to live on the Big Island, there are many beautiful places to choose from. The Kohala Coast is on the west side of the island, also called the Gold Coast, due to the gorgeous sunny weather. This coastline gets the least amount of rainfall and is also considered the dry side or desert side of the island.

There are many different resorts to choose from on the Big Island of Hawaii. Puako is not necessarily classified as a resort, but does have many amenities people are drawn to and want as part of their lifestyle.

Puako – A Place to Live and Love

Puako is located on the Kohala Coast between Hapuna Resort and Mauna Lani Resort. It is a quaint little community with amazing beaches and a small town feel. This was a fishing town at one time, and has a boat ramp and a dock at the north end of the community. It has one road that takes you to many beach accesses.

Paniau is one of the beaches that surfers love to visit. This is a gorgeous beach at the South end of the road for the surfing enthusiast. The beach at the North end of Puako is called 69 beach. Many people visiting the Big Island enjoy this beach, and love it for the white sand beach and many shade trees along the beach for an afternoon nap in the shade. It has great snorkeling and surfing and calm enough for paddle boarding.

Puako is a widely sought after destination on the Big Island. It has a really laid back attitude, but a caring and active community, great beach access for plenty of beach time, whales in the winter, amazing sunsets, and a carefree lifestyle.

There are many different types of homes on this street, and I find the variety charming. You can build a large home and gate it or you can keep the small cottage style home for easy living. I think that is what makes it such a unique place.

Active Puako Condominiums

There is one of the Puako Condominiums (MLS# 266621) now available at an affordable price of $448,000. This is the lowest price property available in Puako at this time. It is a 920 sq.ft., 3 bed, 2 bath condo on the ground floor for easy access.

This private condominium complex is next to the Puako General Store and directly across the street from the ocean. It is a quiet and private complex that also allows rentals, so if you want to rent out your place long term or short term, that is an option here.
