Plogging Anyone? | Let’s Keep Hawaii’s Beaches Clean

Have you heard of plogging? It’s a new word for me, but not a new activity. Plogging is basically picking up litter while jogging (or in my case, walking). Our team at Hawaii Life has been cleaning up the beaches for years. I can’t take credit for the idea, though. Kim Soares is our plogging queen! She spearheads our efforts and our regular highway and beach cleanups. Kim is what you might call a “veteran plogger!” She loves our beaches and is often seen picking up rubbish along our east Oahu shores. Her enthusiasm spills over to those around her, including her family, friends, and co-workers.

Dedicated to Plogging on Oahu

Kim’s husband, Jay, is her most faithful plogger. Perhaps that’s because they do everything together. They are a super couple — committed, loving, and dedicated. Dedicated to each other and to making our island home a better place. A cleaner place. Together, Kim and Jay have covered a lot of shoreline and cleaned up a lot of rubbish! A whole lot!

If you love Hawaii and our pristine beaches (don’t we all?), you may want to consider plogging. It’s a great way to tackle the ocean litter issue and to keep our beaches clean. Think about it — you can be part of the solution while getting some great exercise in the process! You might even find some beautiful shells along the way.

Kim, her ohana, and the crew of Hawaii Life aren’t new to beach cleanup. Over the years, our highways and beaches have benefited from our regular efforts to do our part. We are grateful for our volunteer agents and are happy to be part of the broader effort to keep our shorelines clean. If you share our dedication to keeping our beaches clean, you can join the movement. Become a plogger and commit to the protection of our beaches for the enjoyment of all!
