The tiny house movement is certainly nothing new but is starting to show up in Hawaii. The concept is simple, less is more. You have less money being spent on housing and possessions and hence more disposable income. Just this week I saw one of the first installment of a tiny house oceanfront in Ewa Beach. This was more of a house on wheels but the concept is the same.
This particular lot has direct ocean/beach access and sits at the end of Ewa Beach Park in Ewa Beach. The views of Diamond Head and town are spectacular. This is not to mention the unobstructed ocean view and white sandy beach.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, it’s a great time to readdress water damage and ocean rise. The concept of having a home on wheels might be the best decision based on current events. Given enough notice, you simply can take the house and move it to a safer area inland or higher ground. I am sure moving this home is no small task to orchestrate, but the alternative of possible water damage is far more costly.
The option of moving a house is very interesting to ponder. If there are any changes in the area that are negatively affecting the community you can move. If there are any natural or man-made disasters affecting the home, you can move. I am not sure you would ever get tired of a direct ocean view, but if you did you can easily change the surroundings.
This particular house has a small storage shed next to the home for extra storage. The living spaces in the tiny homes are designed to maximize everything. One thing that you won’t have is tons of storage but this is why a shed makes a great alternative at a fraction of the cost of renting a storage space.
The land and building costs in Hawaii are extremely high. Most of the homes are smaller in size so a possible tiny house might be a great compromise to the high costs. Obviously, for a family with kids, this is not always the best decision. Some can make it work but others might quickly outgrow the space. One thing is for sure—with a tiny house, your family will always stay close.

Thank you for the response to my blog. The lots that are oceanfront typically sell from $650K and up with direct ocean view. This particular property had a movable house on wheels so I am not really sure the cost on the house. The land can be purchased FS. Let me know if I can help in anyway

I could not afford 500k for an oceanfront lot. It has to be expensive though I thought of buying a condo on the Big Island or Kauai

I thought these were illegal in Hawaii? Last time I checked any RV type living is not legal long term, not to mention hazards in a hurricane condition. What have you found regarding the legality of these?

Thank you for responding to my blog. There are obviously not many RV type parks on island but there are a few on the big island. This is mainly do to the cost of shipping them back and forth from the mainland. From what I understand if you own the land you can place these as a permanent type dwelling as long as its approved with the city and county of Honolulu. If its purchased and owned its your land as long as you are not creating an y environmental issue.

I love it the idea. But i dont get the price of the lot. $650 thousands. Defeats the purpose of having a tiny house, because we don’t wanna pay expensive mortgages price. So do you think buy just a small peace of land, how much would cost to put the Tiny house there?

This particular plot of land is direct ocean front. Any land that sits with a sandy beach as part of the property is defienlty going to have a high price then an interior lot. There are plenty of places around the island that you can buy a smaller piece of land and build a tiny house. Hawaii has its challenges as housing in general is in short supply and same with land.

I just sent you a search of available residential land island wide. I pulled a price point form $200K to $600K just so you can see the range. There are some possibilities starting around $265K and then they go up. Let me know how I can help.
